Philip Morris USA's Statement on Virginia Excise Tax Proposal
RICHMOND, VA (April 13, 2004) -
As a longstanding Virginia-based corporation with operations throughout, Philip Morris USA has a vested interest in the economic well-being of the Commonwealth and believes that we should all proportionately share the economic burden in the state. As an industry on which tens of thousands of Virginians rely for their livelihoods, tobacco should not be disproportionately taxed.
We believe that lawmakers are making significant progress towards addressing the complex economic challenges facing the Commonwealth including identifying a reasonable approach to the issue of state cigarette excise taxes.
