1990

  • PM USA participates in the Black Executive Exchange Program in which African-American professionals serve as visiting professors at black colleges and universities. 

1991

  • PM USA initiates diversity training for managers and introduces new Work-Life programs.
  • PM USA launches two education initiatives – Aid to Education, providing scholarships and grants for minorities in the technical and MBA fields, and Project Awareness, a high school career development program.

1992

  • As a platinum sponsor of the annual conference of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, Philip Morris Companies and Kraft, Miller and PM USA establish a framework for the continued recruitment of minorities.
  • PM USA receives the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Annual Corporate Award.
  • PM USA extends diversity training to all salaried employees and establishes diversity “champions” for each functional area.
  • PM USA receives an Exemplary Voluntary Efforts Award from the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs for its resource guide facilitating the employment of minorities, women and people with disabilities.

1993

  • PM USA is one of several funders to launch the National Asian Pacific American Legal Consortium, a nonprofit civil and legal rights group.
  • PM USA receives the Outstanding Organization Award from the Minority Business Development Agency.

1994

  • The American Bar Association presents its Silver Gavel award to PM USA for the Black History Month radio documentary series Mr. Justice: Thurgood Marshall and the Struggle to End Legal Segregation.
  • Thirty-six students complete their four-year undergraduate work as the first recipients of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund, co-founded and supported by Miller and PM USA.
  • The U.S. Department of Commerce recognizes PM USA’s commitment to minority business development with its Regional Director’s Outstanding Organization Award.
     

1995

  • Supplier diversity councils are formed at PM USA to encourage expanded business with minority and women entrepreneurs. 
     

1998

  • PM USA steps up its recruitment efforts with the National Black MBA Association and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs.
  • PM USA is honored by the Governor of Virginia for the company’s domestic violence help and awareness programs.
  • For the fifth consecutive year, PM USA is named Corporation of the Year by the Virginia Regional Minority Supplier Development Council.
  • PM USA wins the Corporation of the Year Award from the Carolinas Minority Supplier Development Council.

1999

  • The Virginia Regional Minority Suppliers Council presents PM USA with the Corporation of the Year Award and the Council’s first annual Lasting Impression Award.
  • The Asian-American Suppliers Council names PM USA Corporation of the Year.
