  • Virginia Slims sponsors the first women’s professional tennis tour.
  • PM USA sponsors the exhibition Contemporary Black Artists.
  • The first Virginia Slims Opinion Poll, developed to track women’s issues, is published.

1973

  • PM USA is the first company to join the Louisville Minority Purchasing Council. 

1974

  • PM USA sponsors the major exhibition Indian Art of the Americas

1975

  • PM USA begins its ongoing partnership supporting Dance Theater of Harlem.

1976

  • PM USA sponsors the comprehensive survey of African-American art Two Centuries of Black American Art.
  • PM USA Forms an Affirmative Action Committee – consisting of operating company presidents, board members, and minority and women representatives – to monitor progress and set goals.
  • PM USA makes its first grant to the Asia Society, a U.S. Organization that promotes understanding of the cultures of Asia.

1977

  • PM USA supports the newly formed National Black Caucus of State Legislators.
